Lizzy's Recipe || Chicken Salad

Hello and welcome to Lizzy's Recipe.
This is a new blog series where I share recipes that I learned throughout my life and especially through my family. So, sit back and enjoy some recipes I have in store. Also, majority of these recipes are budget friendly, but I'm not 100% sure for healthy eating. However, what I do know is that they're good! So enjoy some good eating.

Chicken Salad

Things you'll need:
  • Boneless & Skinless Chicken Breast (3)
  • Canned Tuna (1)
  • Mayo
  • Canned Peas & Carrots (1)
  • Canned Kernel Corn (1)
  • Optional: Corn Chips or Tostadas

Step 1: Start off with boiling water for 15 minutes before adding the chicken. Once the water starts boiling go ahead and add the chicken. Let the chicken sit for 20-30 minutes.

Step 2: Before taking out the chicken out of boiling water, please make sure it's done. The time depends on how high you have the stove on and how thick the chicken breasts are. Don't get salmonella. Once the chicken is ready; empty out the water and add the chicken to a bowl. I recommend letting the chicken cool for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes you'll need to start shredding the chicken. I do it by hand and it can take but up 15 minutes.

Step 3: After shredding all the chicken. You'll add in the rest of the ingredients. The order doesn't matter, but I always add in Tuna first, then Canned Peas & Carrots, after Canned Kernel Corn and finally Mayo. I added a can of everything but its completely up to you on how many cans you want to add. I do sometimes only add one of everything except Tuna, I'll occasionally do two cans of Tuna. As far as the Mayo goes you can do two spoonfuls of Mayo. Optionally: Adding sliced jalapenos. It adds more flavor, but since I don't like jalapenos I skipped this step.

Step 4: Mix everything together. When you're mixing you'll know if you need more Mayo or not. I also start off with a little bit of Mayo and add more along the way if its needed.

Step 5: After Step 4, you're done with your chicken salad. & Taaadaaaaah, you're basically done and you'll be able to enjoy your chicken salad. By the way, I LOVE to eat the chicken salad with corn chips. ITS BOMB(DOT)COM.

I hope you guys enjoyed the first blog post of my new series and I also hope you try this recipe out. If you do try this recipe let me know how you like it or if you have any questions feel free to ask me as well.

Review: ASI ES JALISCO BIRRIERIA Restaurant

BACKSTORY: On a Sunday morning, we were on our way to Fontana running some errands. On our way there my dad hands me a business card for a restaurant, "Asi Es Jalsico Birriera." Apparently, one of his' friends recommended it and since we were in town he wanted to try it. & at this point we were all hungry, so we decided to go with it. Yes, I know this is my 3rd birria Restaurant Review.

Asi Es Jalisco Birrieria Restaurant
Asi Es Jalisco Birrieria Restaurant; is located in Fontana, Ca.

Outside Views.

We walked in the Restaurant and the first thing you heard was Live Mariachi. The hostess sat us down and as soon as they sat us down; chips and salsa arrived within seconds on our table along with the menus.

There's only 2 locations: Fontana & Chula Vista

I was so amazed by what was going on throughout the entire restaurant (live music, food coming in and out the kitchen, people cleaning everywhere)  that I was confused by the menu. I usually just order birria with rice and beans but apparently there's no such plate as that. I would've to order everything separate; meaning more money. #NoThankYou. I had to make my dad order my food; because I did not understand the menu AND my Spanish is not the best. So, both my sister & I sacrificed with what we got. Meanwhile, we waited for our food we munched on the chips and salsa. We listened to the Mariachi and conversated between us.

Live Mariachi
Apparently, Mariachi is only on Fridays for dinner. But when we went it was a Sunday; so Friday & Sunday? The second picture is probably the worst quality of all time, but they are in the back singing their hearts out. They charge 3 songs for $25; which I don't think its bad at all. There's roughly six members and two of them are woman. They sang well and knew all the songs people were requesting. #2ThumpsUp.

FOOD!
As soon as the food arrived, I got Olive Garden vibes. No? I mean they served the food right about the same, expect they didn't ask if we wanted cheese, lol.
Rundown of our food:
Top Left: Sisters' Maciza birria (Just meat and soup).
Top Right: Dad's Surtida birria (everything to bone).
Bottom Left: Mom's taquitos (she was tired of eating birria).
Bottom Right: Mine, same as my sisters' Maciza birria (just meat and soup).

Food Talk: Maciza birria was good it wasn't the best but it was good. The tortillas weren't made by hand. The birria had a lot of meat, thank goodness but it didn't feel special. My dad obviously liked his, *eye roll*. He likes anything, really. My sister & I both would choose MEZQUITAL over this. My mother mentioned that the taquitos were good, but also mentioned "it could be the hunger talking."

Our check
Once we were finished with the food, my parents asked for the check. & I kid you not my mouth dropped. My dad said "Oh that's not bad. The food was good." I immediately looked at him and I looked at my mom and I was like "it wasn't that great." I was even more surprised they charged us for refills; since they never mentioned it to us. Apparently, my sisters' & mine were the most expense because it was Maciza (only meat). I guess it was all in the menu but since I was so confused by it I didn't pay close attention. In total the bill came out to be $80 because of tip; and I regret every single dollar my parents wasted.

FINAL THOUGHTS.
Does Liz Recommend? NO! The food had nothing special to it and it was a bit priced for my liking.
Pros: Fast customer service. Live Mariachi.
Cons:  Far in distance. Pricey. Food isn't flavorful.
Out of 5 Stars? 2.5
Last Words: How I said the food was good but it wasn't great; it was nothing special in my opinion. The only cool part about the restaurant is Live Mariachi, but if you don't like that type of music then I honestly recommend saving your money and splurging it somewhere elsewhere.  The exact address:16785 Arrow Blvd Fontana, CA 92335. It's on a corner a bit hidden.
Don’t be afraid and give it a try.

Review: CREPES DE PARIS

I happened to be at Victoria Gardens when I came across Crepes De Paris.

The restaurant is the smallest restaurant I've seen and it's hidden! It's inside of Victoria Gardens, but the streets are Monte Ave and S. Mainstreet. The only way I was able to spot it was because of the cute little oval sign.

This is legit a Crepes Restaurant. I saw the menu and I was extremely overwhelmed. I wasn't hungry for a meal at time but I knew I wanted to give it a try. So I automatically looked at the Sweet Crepes. I first had tried crepes at San Jose and I've never really found one down here in Socal but I'm happy to say that I've came across one. This is the first all crepes restaurant I've seen/been too.

When I say its the smallest, its the smallest. There's a good four tables inside; two tables are for a family of four and the other two are for couples. They have a little outside patio (as seen above picture #2); three couple tables and that's all. After ordering they'll give you a number and you'll wait at  your table until they bring you the food.

I ordered The Royal: Nutella, fresh strawberries, bananas, chocolate, Chantilly cream and powered sugar. The Royal costs $9.95, I thought it was a bit pricy but then I thought about where the restaurant is located and the size of the crepe. It was well plated and they were not stingy with the fillings. The crepe was loaded with strawberries and bananas. Every bite had a fruit in it, but I will say this DRINK ONLY WATER! It was extremely sweet! I had to wash it down with three water cups.

FINAL THOUGHTS.
Does Liz Recommend? Yes, although it's far and pricy its good and they are known for crepes.
Pros: Good food. Fulfilling. Nice view (outside seating area).
Cons: Hard to find. Pricey. Small restaurant. Far in distance.
Out of 5 Stars? 4 stars
Last Words: When I said its hidden, its hidden. The exact address: 7876 Monet Ave, Rancho Cucamonga, Ca 91739. Its on the side of JCP in Victoria Gardens. PSA: Although I tried one thing off the menu I don't guarantee all the food is good. I did look into YELP reviews and none were negative. All this is based on MY experience! Don’t be afraid and give it a try.

Review: TAQUERIA 2 PORTILLOS Restaurant

BACKSTORY: When I get woken up early morning on the weekends, the last thing I want to eat is "Mexican food." Early mornings I like to gravitate more towards "traditional breakfast" such as: eggs, pancakes, chilaquiles, bacon, hash-browns, etc. So when my parents told me we were going to "Taqueria 2 Potrillos" I was upset because it was a place I never been to nor did I want to have that. (I was cranky when I woke up, lol).

Taqueria 2 Potrillos, Authentic Tacos!, is restaurant located in Perris, Ca.

My first impression arriving to the restaurant was "Wow, an outside seating area? This place must get packed." I walked in and I was completely amazed of how much diversity there was in the restaurant. & No, I'm not talking about the workers. I'm talking about the customers. Thinking, *the food has to be good for this place to attract diversity* But I outta say, this place was clean and nice put together. Although, I tried going to the end of the line to order, smh haha.

When you walk in this is the first thing you see, a window and a long menu above it. & Yes you order in the front, where the long window is located. They sell right about everything there: Carnitas, menudo, birria, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, tacos, mulitas, salads, etc. I was so overwhelmed with their menu! So, I decided to get what I would usually get; which was four tacos de pollo (chicken tacos). Let me do the run down for you: Once you enter you walk straight to the window. At the window they take your order AND they make it right in front of you! Yes, exactly what I said, they make the food right there in front of you. So you're able to see what goes in your food. I dont know, but I thought that was pretty cool.

After you order your food and receive it at the end of the window. You'll have to walk down and see all of their aguas frescas (fresh waters). & at the register they'll ask you to pay, of course.

Breakdown of our food.

We are a family of four in case you were wondering & our total came out to be $39.70. Not going to lie but I did think it was a bit on the pricey side because for breakfast on the weekends we usually waste about $35 including tip and of course its a lot more food as well, but not going deny my tacos were amazing.

(Lets not talk about how my plate ruins the picture).  Look here now, I've eaten so many tacos. Tacos at parties. Tacos that I make at my home. Tacos at my friends/families houses. Tacos at the taco trucks. Tacos at other restaurants. Point is that I love to eat tacos and only de pollo! (I only like white meat). BUT these tacos were amazing! I would have to say these were one of the best tacos I've ever tasted. You can taste how fresh the chicken was and the best part was that there was no fat on the chicken. A pet peeve of mine is biting into the meat's fat AND these tacos did not have any, (but many love the fat, because it gives the meat more flavor!) & I will only eat red salsa and even that was good. I asked my family how they had liked their food & they said the tacos were good and the seasoning was perfect as well & my sister said that her torta was a bit big, but its okay she finished it anyways. However, the thing that won my parents over were the cooked onions. The fresh waters reminded me of boba jugs, they were huge but delicious as well. On that note, I have to give it to my parents for bring me to this restaurant.

Final Thoughts?
Does Liz recommend? YES! The place is spacious, clean and the food was amazing!
Pros: Food options. Nice customer service. The fact that they make the food in front of you. The large drinks. Good food.
Cons: The pricing,
Out of 5 Stars? 4.5
Last words: In my opinion I thought this was a well run restaurant with many food options, so you're not limited. The food was really good. Taqueria 2 Potrillos is located  the corner of 4th st & D st, so its easy to spot. The exact address is: 403 South D St, Perris CA 92570.
Don't be afraid and give it a try.

Review: MEZQUITAL Restaurant

BACKSTORY: This is all about birria. I’ve tried many places and they all taste different. My all-time favorite place is all the way in Tijuana, Mex. Yes, I would make my dad drive me down there on random weekends just to eat. However, at the beginning of February, my dad introduced me to a “new birria restaurant.” When I say ‘new’ I mean new to me.
Mezquital Restaurant

Mezquital, Barbacoa De Borrego Y Birria De Chivo; is a restaurant located in Fontana, Ca

My first impressions from the outside were: This is a colorful small space and somewhat hidden. & As soon as I walked in I knew I was right. It was indeed very small. There are only 6 tables and 4 individuals in each table = the restaurant holds 24 individuals. The image above is inside of the restaurant. Left image: shows their salsa/vegetable cart and above the cart the have a sign with their Party Packages and pricings. In the right image, you can see some tables as well with the menu hung up on the side of the wall.

The first time I went was on a Friday morning around 9:30am. It was not packed but 4/6 tables were taken. When it comes to food I am a very “basic” girl, so I went to the most basic plate there; which is the #4. The #4 is Birria de Chivo with rice, beans, and tortillas & my dad ordered Birria soup #1. I thought the birria was dry and I kind of complain to my dad about it and he mentioned to me that he forgot to tell them to add a little soup to it. BUT other than that, I thought it was good. I thought the prices are reasonable. The picture above is our receipt and our food. The food and drinks came to be $16.20; which I don’t know about you guys, but I thought that was a reasonable price.

I thought the food was good, so I had to go back. How I said I am very basic person and when I like something I don’t tend to let go of it. The picture above is the receipt on the left and food on the right. I stick to what I knew so I got #4 again but this time I asked for a little soup and it was better than the first time & well my dad went a different route and got a small soup of Consome and two tacos. I recommend adding a bit of soup to the meat, so it wouldn't be as dry. There is a breakdown of our food again and it came out to be $12.96.

So once again we went back to eat there. We went on a Saturday morning around 9am and let me tell you it was packed. All six tables inside were taken & apparently on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday) the restaurant put out extra tables outside for customers. When we got there, we were lucky enough to find an empty table. My mom, sister and I each got the basic but very good #4 and my dad got the same as last time: soup of Consome and two tacos. We also got two large drinks: Horchata and Jamaica and let me tell you they are worth the money because of the flavor and size. There’s a breakdown of our food on the top left, our food is on the top right and bottom left, and our drinks on the bottom right. Our total: $33.48

FINAL THOUGHTS.
Does Liz Recommend? Yes, I think the food is very flavorful and at a reasonable price.
Pros: Good food. Nice customer service. Fulfilling. Good pricing. Fast Service.
Cons: Small restaurant. Far in distance.
Out of 5 Stars? 4.5 stars
Last Words: When I said its hidden, its hidden. The exact address: 9844 Sierra Ave. Ste 2. Fontana Ca, 92335. If you know where The Fontana shopping center is at then you are good. The restaurant is next to Yogurtland and in front of King Taco. They accept cash, card, and EBT.
Don’t be afraid and give it a try.
